Lampedusa’s Albatross
Share
It seems strange to talk of albatross in Lampedusa, so that no one has ever seen them.
Yet we also, we have our small “albatross”.
Sure of his older brother has little in appearance, but in terms of flying skills and stay in the open sea is not joking.
It ‘a highly endangered species, comes ashore only to breed and only in some places well protected and hidden and, moreover, at night.
I’m talking about the Storm Petrel. It ‘a real daredevil and his courage is in not even 35, sometimes 39 cm wingspan.
It is the smallest seabird in europe, it is dark almost black with a white spot in the queue.
The first report in Lampedusa dates back to 2008 at the hands of B.Massa.
It feeds on small marine animals, plankton and fish catching the waves.
Who has seen it? In a few, maybe a few lucky ones. Here are some photos from the network.
